Keeping a Healthy Mindset as You Build Your Brand

Keeping a Healthy Mindset as You Build Your Brand

One of the most powerful things about social media is that it is a way to build your personal brand. And what that means is that no matter what level you're at, social media can be a tool to take you higher and expose you to more people. So the way you build that brand is key. And keeping a healthy mindset as you do so is essential.

Trust Is Everything

The first part of a healthy mindset is realizing that your brand is all about building trust. Think about it like this. If you look at companies like Nike or Lululemon they are successful and able to charge the prices that they do because of the image they have crafted. You wouldn't go spend a hundred dollars on a pair of no-name joggers. But when they have Lululemon on there, you don't question it because you trust their brand. That is a result of the image.

People often don't realize that they are doing the same thing with their social media. Yes, you're a person, but at the end of the day, your branding, and how you present yourself to the world, communicates your values as a person. And that is either building or eroding trust.

So you can't be doing all kinds of shady things on your social media and think it won't affect people's trust in you. Employers are even increasingly using social media to judge whether or not to hire someone. They look at your "brand" to see if they'd be willing to work with you. Are you out partying? Are you posting with your family? Make no mistake, they do make decisions based on that stuff. So part of keeping a healthy mindset as you're building your brand is realizing what you post says about you and communicates about your values.

The Bigger You Get, The More They Hate

The second thing to bear in mind is this. The bigger you get, the more scrutinized you will become. This is the dark side of building that trusted brand. People start seeing you less as a person and more as a thing. And people can be especially brutal online. Remember that old lie we were taught as kids, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Truth is that words actually hurt sometimes worse than sticks and stones.

So on the one hand you need to develop a thick skin about that kind of stuff. But at the same time watch out for getting callous in your personal relationships. When you find yourself either being bothered by it, or getting numb to it, stop and think. Negativity though breeds negativity. You can see it in any given comment section!

But positivity does the same thing. Have you ever noticed that if you're ever in a room with someone that's really positive and uplifting, you can get into a better mood? Right? You need to feed yourself with positivity. This is key. It's easy to get drawn into drama because it's entertaining. But the problem is you'll find that it actually weighs you down. So keeping a healthy mindset also means feeding yourself with positivity.

Conclusion

The best ticket to positivity is gratitude. Don't lose the ability to be grateful for what you do have because you're so caught up in wanting what other people have. Remember to be grateful for everything that's in your life. Someone's always gonna have more than you. And if you really have a hard time with comparing yourself to someone, just unfollow them. Constantly comparing yourself will only make you anxious. A healthy mindset will get inspiration from others, but not allow comparison to become a fixation. Focus on your journey and doing the work to get where you desire to go!
